Meet the Team: Jamie Davis

This month, in our latest edition of Meet the Team, we are joined by Jamie Davis, one of our Bristol-based Site Managers.

As a strong woman in a previously male-driven industry, Jamie tells us how important it is to show strength, have confidence in your abilities and surround yourself with people who support your progress.

In 2024, after the sudden demise of her previous employer, Jamie found herself unemployed only four days into her maternity leave. Jamie knew this wasn’t the end of her much-loved career in construction, and only months later, she joined Lancer Scott on a full-time basis.

Can you tell us about your role as Site Manager?

I’m responsible for overseeing the day-to-day delivery of a project. My role involves coordinating suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring works are completed safely and to the required quality, and managing key programme milestones.

A typical day on site for me includes leading briefings, checking progress against programme, dealing with any on-site issues and challenges as and when they arise, reviewing quality and compliance, and working closely with the whole project team to ensure everyone is aligned. No two days are ever the same, with each project having its own unique challenges, and that’s what keeps the role exciting.

Can you share a bit about your background?

I’ve been in the construction industry since I was 19. I started my career with a Tier 1 contractor as an Apprentice Construction Manager, where I gained hands-on experience across a variety of projects while completing my training.

I fell pregnant and had a baby in 2024, however the company I was working for entered liquidation, but thankfully after a few months, I was employed by Lancer Scott where I’ve taken on more responsibility and developed my skillset even further as a Site Manager.

Can you tell us about your experience in the industry? And what led you to choose a career in construction?

During my seven years in construction, I’ve had the opportunity to work on complex, fast-paced projects and build strong technical and management skills. Starting as an apprentice gave me a solid foundation and a good understanding of how every part of a project comes together.

I chose construction as a career because I wanted fulfilling work with clear progression. The industry first appealed to me because it combines hands-on problem-solving with teamwork and camaraderie, and it offers the chance to see results firsthand from the work you put in. As a woman pursuing a successful career in construction, we can break stereotypes in an industry with limitless potential.

What do you enjoy most about working in the construction industry?

I enjoy the fast-paced nature of construction and the fact that every day brings a new challenge. There’s a real sense of achievement amongst the team when a project comes together, and it’s rewarding to know you’ve played a part in creating something physical that could be there for years to come.

What advice would you give to women entering the construction industry?

My advice is to be confident in your abilities and take charge in fostering an inclusive work environment. Construction is a demanding industry, but it’s also an empowering learning environment. There is a place for women in every role and at every level, and I’m grateful to be surrounded by a team of people at Lancer Scott who support my progress.

And finally, when you’re not working, how do you like to spend your time?

Outside of work, I like to unwind by staying active and spending time with friends and family. Having that balance is key and helps me re-energise and come back to work feeling refreshed.
