Suite 2b, Hodge House

The Brief:

We were appointed by the landlord, Legal and General Investment Management, to develop the Employer’s Requirements as produced by Architects Stride Treglown and MEP Consultants Hoare Lea, and deliver a CAT B fit out and furniture supply, alongside JLL as Project Manager and Currie & Brown ad Cost Consultants, at the historic Hodge House building in central Cardiff.

Suite 2B can be found on the second floor of the recently renovated building. The entire building had previously undergone a multi-million-pound refurbishment, and the area was already delivered to a high-quality specification for us to be able to deliver the client’s own style of fit out.

The 3,000 sq ft space at Suite 2B is known as a ‘Capsule’, and with other Capsules located across the eight-storey office block, it is the latest one to be designed and built. A Capsule allows occupiers a stress-free and ready-to-go working environment, typically referred to by landlords as a ‘plug and play’ solution.

The Solution:

For this fit out, the continuity of architectural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing services needed to be met from an aesthetic, performance and quality perspective, and in line with the existing Capsule spaces found at Hodge House.

The difference for this project, compared to the other Capsules, was that the layout was tailored to suit the requirements of a new, impending tenant. This occupier needed a workspace that would encourage collaboration and be an effective space for both internal discussions and client meetings.

With its grand stature, the design caters to the architectural identity of the Grade II listed office building, and a sense of intimacy and privacy throughout the open plan has been welcomed.

The fit out included the installation of brick slip walls, and combined with the exposed services and Crittall effect glazing, which can be seen elsewhere throughout the building, creates a perfectly balanced style of industrial and Art Deco. This is further complimented by the soft colour palette throughout the furniture selection and decoration.

Surrounding the workstations are a variety of meeting rooms including an 18-person boardroom, as well as more informal discussion areas with touch down furniture pieces to aid effective teamwork.

Consideration was given to acoustics, and towards the back of the working environment we built and fitted out a large break out area away from the open desking that would welcome social meet ups over lunch.

A high-quality, contemporary fit out has been achieved at the latest Capsule at Hodge House and it’s now ready to welcome the new tenant for immediate occupation.
