The ICO

The Brief:

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) in Cardiff provides a local point of contact for members of the public and organisations based in Wales.

Our client moved into the landmark building, Churchill House, seven years ago, and with the aim of revitalising the space, they partnered with Lancer Scott for an office refurbishment.

Over a 10-week programme we were tasked with breathing new life into the hub, not only to invigorate teams, but to enable a more effective and welcoming space for all stakeholders.

The Solution:

The project included a complete strip out of the office environment, including the removal of suspended ceilings for an exposed concrete structural ceiling. We built new internal partitions, installed new writable walls, and removed all flooring ready for new.

Across the newly refurbished open plan floorplate, there is a dedicated space for workstations, focus pods, meeting rooms, and collaboration zones. The formation of areas across the floor are cleverly created via fluted and coloured glass used within the pods, and noise is carefully managed with new acoustic panels.

A contemporary kitchen, teapoint and adaptable break out space has been built for teams to relax and enjoy.

During the scope of works the building was in live occupation and particular attention was needed for all noise pollution, which was coordinated and kept to a minimum to avoid disruption to existing building tenants. Our programme also needed to accommodate a plan for deliveries, due to the city centre location and heavy footfall area.

Cultivating a modern, airy, and inviting atmosphere, the refurbishment at the ICO has provided a foundation for growth, productivity, and enhanced collaboration.
