First Floor, Coal House

Brief

Our client, a leading global tech firm, secured a new 6,250 sq. ft workspace at the reimagined Coal House building in the heart of Cardiff. The move marked an opportunity to create a home that supported our client during its next phase of growth.

But this fit out required a quick turnaround. The aim? A slick, stylish and functional workspace for our client to effectively embrace a hybrid working environment that aligns with how their team’s work today.

Solution

Working together with Wylde Interior Architecture, we developed and optimised the client’s original layout into a workable design scheme. Following a quick tender turn-around, our delivery team were on site and starting the build.

The new workspace needed to be adaptable, but with clear, identified zones for meet and greet, central breakout, collaboration and touch down, plus focus areas and open plan working. The range of work settings supports different teams, individuals and tasks, giving people the choice of how and where to interact and do their work best.

Subtle pops of colour throughout the flooring and acoustic materials work well with the tonal scheme, enabling a calm and serene atmosphere across the wider space. In support of a hybrid-style working environment, the client wanted the office to be a place where people enjoy being in, whilst optimising their time together.

Sustainability was important to the client; existing furniture needed to be recycled and reused wherever possible, and we curated a scheme that worked with this in mind. We also coordinated some of the unused furniture pieces and offered them back to the supplier, The Senator Group, to use as part of their “Re-Work Second Life” programme to sell onto others.

Within just six weeks, our team successfully created a modern and inviting new home for our client that minimised waste and cost.
